Happy New(ish) Year
Squeezing in my best of 2021 on the very last day of January 2022. Seems about right.
2021 was a year of….well, a year of a lot. A lot of work, a lot of rest, a lot of uncertainty. And I’ll just leave it at that.
I didn’t have a best of music list for 2021 – the first time in over seven years . There are a lot of reasons for it, but namely, I just didn’t listen to new music as much. With working remotely, no car commute, and less running this year, taking in new tunes was minimal. So I’ll just say my favorite song of 2021 was Good Girls by Chvrches and I really loved the album Smiling with No Teeth from Genesis Owusu.
I did, however, listen to a lot of podcasts. Jake and I fell in love with Song Exploder on our road trip, and we devoured No Compromise on back and forth trips to Illinois. I also became a daily listener of, you guessed it – the Daily. And finally got on the Brene Brown train with Dare to Lead.
I also read (and by read, listened) to a bunch of books. By far, the most thought provoking was Girlhood by Melissa Febos followed up by the Sum of Us by Heather McGhee.
And my favorite picture of 2021. I captured Izzie jumping for joy in a bounce house rented for her birthday.
